Understanding Your Options For Mobile Website Design
May 5, 2017If Your Website Is Missing These Features, It’s Time For An Update!
March 20, 2018Have you heard that Facebook is changing its algorithm? In this blog, we’ll cover everything you need to know about the new changes and it will affect you, and how we can help you manage your Facebook business account.
Page posts from businesses will be ranked differently than page posts from friends.
In order to keep users engaged, Facebook continually tweaks its News Feed algorithm ensuring that users are served the most engaging and relevant material possible. Their algorithm dials in on time spent online, clicks, likes, comments, and shares throughout the site. In other words, Facebook serves specific content to users in order to keep them on Facebook.
But what does that mean for your business? Simply put, content from family and friends will be given more “weight” versus that of businesses.
How will this affect post engagement on your business page?
Pre-algorithm update, it was estimated that of 100 people who liked your page, only 2-5% of fans saw your posts. However, because businesses accounted for much of the content being served to users they still received a fair amount of brand exposure.
Going forward however, business pages will see a major decline in organic exposure, by as much as 80%. You can expect to see declines in the following: page likes and engagement, reach, comments, and shares.
Ad prices will inevitably go up as a result.
Gone are the days of spending a mere $5 to $10 here and there to boost your page posts or ads. With the new algorithm in place, businesses are expected to pay the price quite literally. If you want your brand to be seen, you’ll have to up your Facebook marketing budget to compete with the changes. You need to start telling yourself, “we’ve got to pay to play”.
